The Altmuehl Spa(1)

The Altmuehl Spa (“Altmuehltherme”) is without a doubt Treuchtlingen’s biggest attraction. The complex’s indoor wave pool was opened back in 1973 while a small spa and two outdoor hot springs were added in 1981. The initial trigger for Treuchtlingen’s aspiration as a spa town was the hot spring founded by the local Schäffbräu in 1977. In 1996, following years of planning and development the Altmuehl Spa was finally opened to the public.

The focal point of the complex is the large spa pool which boasts bubble jets and massage nozzles, a water rapid, a waterfall and a grotto illuminated with lights. Swimming in the warm geothermal water is fun, helps the healing process and relieves many musculoskeletal-related pains. Visitors from the local region and much further a field come to enjoy the benefits of the spa. The outdoor pools and ground-floor therapy basin are ideal for those who wish to explore the spa’s health benefits. More sport orientated visitors can make use of the 50 metre outdoor pool, which operates in the summer months. Children are also catered to with a shallow pool, paddling pool and a massive tube slide. The wave pool is open all year long giving visitors the sensation of swimming in the sea.
